What Size Moving Truck Do You Need?

The right vehicle for a move depends on how much is being moved, not just how many bedrooms a property has. This guide gives a general sense of how vehicle size typically scales with move size — useful for picturing your move, though we confirm the actual vehicle and crew after reviewing your specific details.

Vehicle size generally follows move size

Moving vehicles range from small vans suited to a single item or a few pieces of furniture, up to larger trucks for a full house move. As a general guide, the categories we ask about in a quote request map roughly like this:

  • Single item or a few pieces — a small van or ute is often enough.
  • Studio or 1-bedroom — typically a small to medium van.
  • 2 bedrooms — usually a medium van or small truck.
  • 3 bedrooms — usually a larger truck.
  • 4+ bedrooms or an office — often a larger truck, sometimes with more than one trip or vehicle depending on volume.

Why we don't just assume based on bedroom count

Two 3-bedroom homes can have very different amounts to move — one furnished sparsely, another with a full household plus a garage of extras. Access also matters: a larger vehicle isn't useful if it can't get close to the property. That's why we review your item list and access details rather than sizing the vehicle from the bedroom count alone.

What to share so we can plan the right vehicle

  • A rough item list or description of what's moving.
  • Any single large items (appliances, furniture that doesn't disassemble, a piano).
  • Access at both ends — this can affect whether a larger vehicle can be used at all.
  • Whether the move might need more than one trip.
